Bad dreams can have a significant impact on our mood. Bad dreams are also known as ”Night Mares”. They are a common experience that can affect our mental and emotional health. Bad dreams can lead to feelings of discomfort, anxiety and fear. They may even participate to the development of mental health conditions such as depression and can also cause post-traumatic stress disorder(PTSD).

A Night mare scares the dreamer so much that they wake up suddenly in the middle of the night. Sweating, feeling an intense dread, heartbeat pounding incredibly quick and sometimes, shouting in fear. They feel anxious and peril. This is often due to intense and vivid nature of bad dreams, which can leave us feeling scared after we have awoken. This may cause a dreamer sleep disorder and a negative emotional response from mind. In some cases, these negative emotions may persevere throughout the day, that leads to a sense of discomfort and anxiety. Nightmare was the original term for the state, later known as Waking dream; and more currently as Sleep Paralysis, connected to REM(rapid eye movement) sleep.

Another way of bad dreams that can influence our mood and mental health is by disrupting our sleep. Bad dreams usually occur during the later stages of sleep, when our bodies are in the state of deep relaxation. As a result of bad dream, we wake up abruptly and feeling stress and agitated and the dreamer then tries to avoid sleeping in order to stop seeing bad dreams. They avoid sleeping by making themselves busy and by drinking plenty of coffee. This can feeling them the feelings of fatigue and reduced ability to do actions and perform tasks. After seeing their bad dreams, some sleepers became Paranoid. Children who have night fears may also have tendency to sleepwalk or urinate in bed. They often gulp, groan or scream loudly like fighting whatever they were dreaming about. These conditions can significantly influence a person’s mood and overall quality of life.

The emotional tally of nightmares can affect Cognitive function. Concentration memory and decision-making may be weakened as a result of disrupted sleep and the emotional and the emotional aftermath of disrupting sleep. The effects of Nightmares can often leak over into daytime functioning. People may find it difficult to focus at work or school, participate in social activities or maintain a positive perspective due to enduring

emotional and physical effects of disturbing dreams.

People experiencing recurring bad dreams may face difficulties related to self-esteem and self-worth. The themes and material of dreams can sometimes reach out for deep-seated terrors and insecurities, affecting how people perceive themselves and their abilities. For people with pre-existing mental health conditions, bad dreams can intensify symptoms. Tenacious bad dreams may lead to the development of avoidence behaviours. People may avoid certain places, activities or even social interactions to reduce the risk of activating distressing emotions connected with dream content. With the passage of time, such avoidance can limit life experiences and impede personal growth. Bad dreams especially with those traumatic content may increase a person’s susceptibility to experiencing psychological trauma. The emotional impact of repeated exposure to distressing scenarios can participate to a increased sensitivity to stressors and possibly impact long-term mental health.
